The Essence Beauty Box – October 2015

Does anyone else feel like this Beauty Box is playing with their emotions or is it just me?  Essence recently launched their first Beauty Box and I was so excited when I heard the news.  I immediately went on their website, got out my little credit card and I placed my order.  Now it’s the middle of October, I received my box, I opened my box and I am disappointed.

Essence Beauty Box Cover October 2015

I love the idea behind it and the intention but I just don’t love the execution.  I feel as though it’s not well rounded or special. The contents don’t feel specifically curated for me or people that look like me.  It’s also just a tad bit boring in my opinion. I was hoping for color.  I was hoping to see fall trends.  I was hoping for excitement.  What I got was a box of oh okay this is nice I guess.

Final Thoughts:  Yes, this box does feel like I’m getting my money’s worth as far as product value goes however, as you can probably tell by now, I’m not excited.  ESSENCE is supposed to be “the premiere lifestyle, fashion and beauty magazine for African-American women” according to their website so I was expecting more trends and more beauty specifically for us.  Where is the seasonal blush?  Where is that perfect transition eye shadow shade that shows up on brown skin?  Where is the super trendy brown lipstick for fall?  What about skin oils or new skincare trends?

Now yes, I am excited to try the hair products and I love hand creams and perfume samples but that is not what I had in mind when I thought of a beauty box from Essence especially not on the first month launch.  I’m hoping next month is better because I really want to support and keep my subscription but I also want to feel excited and satisfied when I spend my money on beauty products.

What do you think about the product selection? Were my expectations too high?  What did you like or dislike about the box?  I would love to read your thoughts on this.
