Do you think the beauty subscription box craze is over? I certainly do and if the craze isn’t over, the response is certainly less enthusiastic than it’s previously been. I’ve seen the popularity of these boxes decline and some of the boxes have ended altogether. I really love the concept of subscriptions and my hope is that they figure out a way to reconfigure and give the customers what they want. I also think there should be incentives to purchase the full sizes. In my Rachel Zoe subscription box (which is quite expensive and may not be a completely accurate comparison) they have started letting the customer customize certain items and there are also discount codes for the brands that are featured which encourages me to want to spend my money on those companies. I also think that at least one full-sized value item should always be included because in reality, we are paying for samples that are regularly given out for free and with larger companies, these samples typically have a really low cost of goods price because of the volume in which they are produced.
So now that I’ve gotten off on a tangent about beauty boxes, let me get back to what we are really here for which is the Sephora Play! Subscription box that I received last month. The box focus is “The Unbasic Basics” which features amped up beauty necessities. I wasn’t that enthusiastic about the items in this box but I do love trying and seeing the products that Sephora has to offer so that is why I keep my subscription going. I also like that the price is quite low so I never feel like I’m wasting money as I do find new exciting products that I quite like.
Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in Love Spell – Full-Size Price $12.50
I was not impressed with the lipstick shade or formula on this one and I wish they would have included one of the lip stains from the Sephora line as I think those are much better!
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper – Full-Size Price $20.00
This is a great liquid eyeliner to layer on top of my gel liner. Because the liner is a little more of a watery consistancy, I don’t like using it alone as it has a tendency to be a little harder to work with. However, it does dry down quickly and it doesn’t budge and lasted all day on me.
Love this one. It keeps my brows in place all day and layers nicely over my brow products.
Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia – Price Range $25 – $125
I love the scent of this and I absolutely love the convenience of having fragrance samples for on-the-go but the pre-civil war (“antebellum elegance”) description that they chose to include in the product description makes it impossible for me to rave about this product. Thanks to The Fancy Friend for pointing that one out because I didn’t notice the website description initially.
It takes me awhile before I can give feedback on a skincare product but from the description, this lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that has skin brightening ingredients seems to be ticking all of the right boxes for me to fall in love eventually.
The jury is still out on this hair product because the smell isn’t my favorite which makes me want to wash it out immediately, therefore, preventing me from getting a real feel for how the product works. I tried the product once and I did not notice a real difference in my hair but the scent lingered all day giving me a headache. The product may work for someone else but it did not work for me at this time.
