Nars Velvet Lip Glide Duo – Lip Gloss for Grown Folks

The cash wrap at Ulta has to be legendary by now. I promise you it gets me every time. I went in for a new blow dryer one day, and I came out with an additional five items solely from the cash wrap. One of the packages that immediately caught my eye was the Nars Lip Glide Duos. They were sleek looking, small in size, affordable (when compared to other Nars products) and drool-worthy and of course, I had to have them.

I settled on the Californication/Staying Alive Duo because I was rushing and didn’t realize that they had other shades available but I certainly lucked out with my impulse buy this time. I have since gone back for the other duo and will be purchasing the online exclusive duo soon. FYI, there is also a six pack available online that I wish I had known about that includes all of the duos.

Shade Featured: Californication/Staying Alive

Available at Nordstrom, ULTA, Sephora

Price: $16

Okay, so now let’s talk about both of the shades individually, shall we? Californication is a grown-up lilac pink color that I have been carrying in my purse since the first day that I purchased it. It pairs very well with my favorite everyday blush Nars Dolce Vita. It’s playful, youthful but doesn’t seem kiddie. This one transfers to drinks and is not what I would consider long-wearing as it lasts only about 3 hours without eating or drinking but reapplication is comfortable and because of the non-sticky formula, layering the product is very comfortable on the lips.

The second shade in the duo, Staying Alive, is a bright berry pink and is just as gorgeous as it’s companion. It is highly opaque and needs only one layer to get full coverage. This one is also very easy to apply but has a longer wear time than Californication. Both of these colors look great on my darker skin tone and are brown girl friendly (Staying Alive more than Californication). The duo is a great way to try different shades of a luxurious formula at a reasonable price, and I highly recommend them. Also, with most retailers of Nars having excellent return policies, you can always get your money back if you disagree with me, even though I’m pretty sure you won’t.

Let me know if you try these out and what you think.
