15 Minute Makeup Routine

How to Achieve a Quick Morning Makeup Routine

I love makeup and I’ve spent years trying to get to a point that balances my love for a beat face with my desire to sleep in.  Since I’ve decided that I love to sleep a little more than I love an early morning flawlessly beat face, I came up with a quick morning makeup routine and I hope I can help you achieve that as well. This routine takes me about 15 minutes (which includes random dance breaks) and my makeup lasts all day.

STEP 1: Simplify the Eyebrows

Don’t overanalyze your brows.  A few stray hairs are okay and it’s also okay if your brows aren’t twins!  Focus on filling in the sparse areas and defining your arch, it makes a world of difference and takes very little effort.

The reason that I like to start with the eyebrows is because I have sparse brows and it’s easier for my brows to stay in place when I apply my brow products on skin vs putting the products on top of foundation and powder.  I also start with the brows because it gives my skincare time to settle onto my face before my foundation application.

I’ve started growing my brows out which makes it easier and less time-consuming to fill them in.  I like to use a water-resistant eyebrow cream or a brow pencil to achieve a natural looking brow and then I clean up underneath the arch with my lighter foundation shade.

My two favorite brow products are the Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow and MAC Brow Pencil

STEP 2: Simplify the Eyes

Narrow down your eyeshadow choices.  Choose a natural, matte color that is close to your skintone.  Add that shade to your lid and then blend it out with a fluffy brush! Adding liner and mascara will define the eyes and make them the focus of your makeup look.

I’ve narrowed down my many eyeshadow choices to one natural warm brown eyeshadow and that has now become my go-to color. I wear it over an eyeshadow primer for longevity.  After I apply and blend that eyeshadow, I use a gel liner because I cannot go without my winged liner and I’ve found that gel is the easiest for me to apply but you can use a pencil eyeliner or a liquid liner to achieve a similar look. I always finish my eye looks by popping on my favorite natural looking lashes which are the Demi Wispie style but again you can skip this, simply apply your favorite lengthening mascara and go.

Favorite Eye Products include MAC’s Soft Brown, Wet N Wild Gel Liner & Demi-Wispie Lashes

STEP 3: Skin Skin Skin

Getting your skin in top shape with skincare and skincare treatments will greatly reduce your need for face products and decrease the time it takes to achieve a clean foundation look. Don’t go too light with your concealer or powder and make sure you blend your foundation and choose the right foundation shade!  After you find your foundation match, you can choose another shade 1-2 levels lighter to highlight underneath the eyes, the bridge of the nose and the forehead area to mimic your skins natural color variations.

I’ve been working incredibly hard at getting my skin back on track and now I’ve drastically cut down my foundation/concealer and powder application time.  I am doing that by using a stick foundation in two shades and then spot concealing with concealer when needed.  After applying my foundation, I blend it out with my favorite brush or sponge and then set it with loose powder in the t-zone and then using pressed powder to blend and “set” the rest of my face.

Favorite Face Products include Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick, MAC PRO Concealer and Corrector Palette, Laura Mercier Setting Powder, and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural

STEP 4: My Lips but Better

Exfoliate and Moisturize the lips and then dab your favorite pinky brown lipstick on top to add some color and that’s it!

Favorite “My Lips but Better Lip Products” include Kiehl’s Lip Balm, MAC Lipstick in various shades, Too Faced La Creme Lipstick and Nars Dolce Vita (not shown)

This is extra of course but it makes a world of difference if you have the time.   Apply a little highlight to the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and cupids bow.  Throw on some bronzer to the perimeter of my face to add color/bronziness (yes I wrote bronziness!) and dimension.  Then finish with a little pop of blush on the cheeks for that youthful glow and your look will be complete!
