The Fenty Beauty launch was incredible in that it began with 40 foundations and we had deeper shades immediately. We even got darker shades with different undertones which are amazing and made me want to support this launch 100 percent well that and the fact that it’s Rihanna and I love Rihanna.
Foundation speaks to me on a spiritual level because foundation can make or break your look real quick, but if you perfect it, your face looks flawless. However, let that foundation not match your neck, and it will not be a cute day for you.
I often have to manipulate and tweak every foundation to match my skin tone, so I’m constantly on the lookout for new formulas and brands. Sephora usually gets my coins because I stan for Nars foundations but this time I had to check out that Fenty launch.
To avoid the crowds, I decided to order online, which is always a risk when buying foundation, and I finally settled on the shade 430 which is described as being “for deep skin with neutral undertones and subtle red tones.” Spoiler Alert, I picked the wrong shade but let’s move on.

So first let’s talk shade. This shade leans red, really red. In photos, it looks pretty good, but you can tell that it’s a bit off. In person, it’s even more noticeable. The formula is thin and dries down quickly, so you have to work fast. This formula looks like skin and is very lightweight, but the coverage is not there for me. I did about three layers, and I could still see my hyperpigmentation peaking through the foundation. I wore this for 2 hours (I did not set it with a powder) before I could see the foundation separating on my face. The next day I wore it and set it with a powder, and it looked a lot better and wore for triple the time before I needed to blot.
I will be returning this shade, and I will not repurchase this foundation because it doesn’t give me the coverage that I need. This would be a good foundation for normal skin types that love the lightweight coverage. While I love this launch and the packaging is luxe, and the shade range is bomb, I don’t enjoy the formula.
Have you guys tried this one yet? What was your experience?
I’m so glad you did this review! I live for your foundation reviews because you are always honest and on point! The range of shades is impressive, but I’m not sure I’ll be purchasing this now. I’m looking for something full coverage (because, hyperpigmentation on chin and cheek) and I don’t want to have to keep building to cover anything up. This foundation looks amazing on you, though! You have beautiful skin!
Are you trying out any more items from Fenty Beauty? I still want a highlighter and lip gloss. We’ll see! Thanks for sharing this review, Sabs.
Thanks Dre! I’m in the process of returning mine right now. I have a few more products to post about. I’m testing about 5. But FYI, the lipgloss is going back in this return too. I’m wearing it in the photos in this post and it does nothing for me. I want to keep it because I’m a hoarder and the packaging is pretty but it’s going back.
While I truly appreciate the shade range, I agree the formula is average. I wore it today and it did not stand up to heat and humidity. The girls at my Sephora were saying the coverage leans full but I don’t know what they’re talking about.
I don’t know what they are talking about either. It probably works better when they add a bunch of other products to the mix in order to make it work.
